The Samsung 850 PRO mz-7ke256bw touts itself as the next leading solid state drive for performance, endurance, and energy efficiency.
It is considered as the first SSD to use the 3D Vertical NAND architecture.
V-NAND basically stacks 32 cell layers on top of one another, instead of shrinking the cell to fit the form factors.
In this manner, V-NAND provides a higher density and a higher performance, while using a smaller footprint.
With the 3D V-NAND technology, the flash memory inside the SSD enables the ultimate performance in reading and writing.
Sequential reads are up to 550MB/s and sequential writes are up to 520MB/s.
Durability will not be a concern, as it is built to handle 150 Terabytes Written (TBW), which leads to a 40GB per day read/write workload over a 10-year period.
Security will not be a problem with the Self-Encrypting Drive technology.
It already includes an AES-256-bit hardware-based encryption engine.
It also complies with the TCG Opal v2.0 standards and Microsoft eDrive IEEE 1667 protocol.
The One-Stop Install Navigator software allows for a quick and easy data transfer from a SSD or hard disk to the 850 PRO.
And with the Samsung Magician software, one can conveniently set up, monitor, manage and maintain the SSD.
Aside from the 256GB, the Samsung 850 also has developed larger storage solutions in 512GB and 1TB. There is also a 128GB version.
